Paris is amazing and beautiful. It’s nice to be back to a more familiar place with safe food and water. Also, it’s been fun to have our grandparents and cousin Andrew meet us here. We have been able to see a lot here the past couple days!! There are lots of churches and cathedrals here that are so, so beautiful, like Sainte Chapelle, Notre Dame, and Sacre-Coeur. They’re all so pretty, but very unique too. We also saw the palace at Versailles. It was also beautiful, but in a different way. All the rooms had beautifully detailed paintings across the ceiling, and the rooms were lined with gold and engraved marble – and there were a LOT of rooms. We also saw the Statue of Liberty, just down the river from the Eiffel Tower. It was fun to see an exact replica of one of America’s most famous landmarks.
In my own opinion, though, the Eiffel Tower tops all. There’s just something about it that is just amazing and gorgeous. I mean, you hear about it all your life, but it’s so much better actually seeing it. It’s so tall, and just…happy. With the blue, blue sky and white clouds in the background, and the sun shining on it and the sparkling Siene River across from it….it could not be any more beautiful!!! It was a lot of fun to drive by it, and especially to ride by it on a little river boat.
We got to see Normandy today, and it was very beautiful and moving. It was different than I was expecting, but in a really good way. The small villages and beaches and ocean and monuments were so nice. We saw bunkers and tunnels and tanks, but the best part here was definitely the cemetery. Row after row, columns after column were white crosses and stars of David – the gravestones. It made World War II so much more meaningful; when I saw all the graves, the names of those who died became actual people, people who died so everyone would have the opportunity to live in freedom. I am so grateful for all those who died to give others a chance for life.
France has been incredible – so beautiful and incredible. It has been better than I ever could have hoped!!
